Instead, learning to accept those things has freed me from a lot of mental battles where I would be so frustrated or hopeless in a situation, wishing it would change. By letting go of that judgment and the need for things to be different and just accepting things as they are, then they're free to change and better serve me. Yoga taught me to love myself: Now, when I feel self-doubt or shame or negative thoughts, I observe them more calmly and objectively, like I'm taking a step back and looking at the state of my mind. When I'm feeling overwhelmed or discouraged, I can be gentle with myself and just let myself go through whatever it is. Usually I’ll find my motivation and positivity sooner because I was gentle and didn’t try to force it. Yoga connects us on a deeper level: A huge piece of Yoga is that we’re all one: we're all connected, we're all united, we feel the same feelings, we have very different experiences in this life but when it comes down to it, we're all the same. Just seeing other people on the street, thinking about other people in the world, and recognizing that we’re all connected is an amazing feeling- in other words, the meaning of “Namaste.” Yoga gives me inner peace: Practicing Yoga and meditation makes me self-aware and secure, so that my happiness depends only on what is happening inside my mind, and not on my circumstances, other people's behavior, or events in life. My internal world is calm, secure, stable, and happy, so I can get through whatever is happening externally because I'm okay internally. Yoga gives me tools, skills, and understanding to be able to think better, think more clearly, live better and more happily, love myself more, take care of myself, know my priorities in life, know what's good for me, and know where to draw lines when things aren't good for me. Yoga gives me tools to improve my life: Yoga translates into all areas of my life: from work and trying to force things to happen versus embracing opportunities or turning things into opportunities; to interacting with other people; to being more self-aware; to body image; to being able to cope when something really earth-shattering happens; and having a stable footing where I am, knowing where I stand, being okay with who I am, where I am, what I am doing. Yoga spreads the light: The way Yoga has changed my mind and my life is definitely noticeable to me, because I'm the one living it. But it always impresses me when other people comment that I seem different, happier, and calmer, or they point out situations where I would have reacted a certain way in the past and that now I just let things go. So it's interesting to see that even other people notice differences in my thinking and the way that I feel and my outlook on life. Yoga really has changed my life in every way and that's why I want to share it with other people now. How has Yoga changed your life? Eight years ago Jim Kambeitz faced a choice: have another knee surgery or do yoga to heal and realign his joints properly. He had lost his ability to walk, so he knew that if he was to heal he’d need to commit to a serious daily practice. Months later, Jim was surprised to find that in addition to healing his knee to the point that surgery was no longer necessary, yoga transformed his life. Jim enjoys sharing the healing power of yoga and meditation as a yoga teacher and filmmaker. He has spent much of the past 20 years traveling the world, learning languages and studying under gurus from India and Europe to Brazil. He earned his Masters in Film Theory at UND and studied cinematography at the Polish National Film School. Jim and his wife, Angie, have produced three yoga DVDs, including "Mysore Magic: Yoga at the Source," which is being distributed in over 60 countries.
